In its submission Council has strong concerns with this proposed variation to the Territory Plan. Concerns related to the period of community consultation for what appears to be dramatic change to the Territory Plan; the complexities of the considerations; increases to the number of blocks subject to redevelopment; the reduction in block sizes; and an apparent outcome that will weaken the requirements to comply with existing neighbourhood character. The Canberra Labor Club is considering pursuing a proposal to deconcessionalise the Crown lease for its site at Stirling. The proposal is stated to be for property management purposes and would not alter the current use of the site.
