Green Bike Lane Removed

The contentious “green†bike lane on Streeton Drive on the approach to Namitjira Drive intersection has been removed and replaced by a left turn lane. This followed Council discussions on this matter with ACT Roads.

Council, while welcoming the removal of the “green†markings, remains concerned that the changes to Streeton Drive have created problems with the Mulley Street and Hilder Street junctions with Streeton Drive. Council would like to here from Weston Creek Residents on how these changes impact on them and what your thoughts are.

This non-issue did not deserve front page coverage in the Chronicle. The lane changes on Streeton Drive looked odd, but Roads ACT had previously explained to the Council that the lane changes were necessary to improve safety at the Namatjira Drive intersection. It was never about cycle access. The changes actually improved traffic flow, so what was the problem?
