Chronicle - 23 April 2013

 Please note that there is a date change for the next Public Meeting of the Weston Creek Community Council.  We have decided to defer the meeting to Wednesday 1 May at the Weston Club at 7.30 pm so as to not conflict with Anzac Day. 

 I am pleased to be able to say that our Guest Speaker will be Mr Shane Rattenbury, the Minister for Territory and Administrative Services.  So come along to find out what plans the ACT Government has for Weston Creek.  Areas open for discussion include bus services, roadworks, public domain maintenance and the pick-up of large rubbish items.

The Chronicle - 12 Feb 13

The holiday season is over and life is returning to normal.  Our first Council meeting will be held on Wednesday 27 February at the Weston Club at 7.30 pm.  We have the Health Care Consumer’s Association Inc presenting to us on what their role is with Health in the Community.  HCCA is the peak health consumer advocacy body in the ACT, supporting and developing health consumer perspectives and policy in the Territory for over 30 years.  It is an organisation through which everyone can participate in policy, planning and service decisions that affect their health.  HCCA works to improve the quality and availability of health services, supports consumers to identify shared priorities about health and represents these views to the ACT Government.

Charity Bin Pilot Project

TAMS are undertaking trial measures to combat the illegal dumping through the "Charity Bins Pilot Project". The Pilot Project will test two main strategies - "enhanced enforcement" and "practice change". This Pilot will run from 1 August until 28 February 2013. the intent is to collect data on the amount of illegal dumping within selected areas and monitor how different strategies may effect the incidence of illegal dumping in trail regions.

Timetable to tempt riders
Route shuffle boosts frequency

ACTIONHIGHER frequency bus travel has been introduced to Weston Creek after the community raised concern about lack of incentives to use public transport.

The change has come amid discussion about the possible introduction of a bike and ride facility at Cooleman Court.

The facilily would provide another option for cyclists using public transport, but many riders in Weston Creek believe the bike and ride would not be an attractive option.

Southside Chronicle 23 May 2012

The next Meeting of the Weston Creek Community Council will be held on Wednesday 30 May at the Weston Club at 7.30 pm. Our Guest Speaker this month will be Mr David Papps, the Director General of the Environment and Sustainable Development Directorate of the ACT Government.

This Directorate covers a diverse range of issues from Environment which includes energy, water, climate change and renewables, to Planning and Land Use through ACTPLA, Transport Planning, Heritage and Nature Conversation. It is a wide ranging portfolio which covers many of those matters of interest to residents.

WCCC is not a local government body. For government matters contact CanberraConnect.

The WCCC holds open public meetings on last Wednesday of the month - see Meetings for a timetable.

The meetings are held at The Weston Club, Liardet Street, Weston at 7.30pm (map). We regularly have invited speakers, politicians and other representatives, with other organisations (eg ACT Policing) also regularly attending.

There are no membership fees for the WCCC and any resident of Weston Creek is able to contact the WCCC to seek assistance or advice. All members of the committee are volunteers and no one receives payment for any activities. The Council also receives financial support from the ACT Government.
