Islamic School of Canberra moves to Weston

The Chairman of Islamic School of Canberra board, Mr Ikebal Patel has announced the relocation of Islamic School of Canberra to its permanent site in Weston. “Students at the Islamic School of Canberra commenced term two classes at the new home with enthusiasm and great excitement”, he said.

Parents of students at Orana School in Weston are concerned about the safety of their children due to an expected increase in traffic in Unwin Place.

The school has made representation to the ACT Government in the past about traffic movement at the intersection of Streeton Drive and Dixon Drive.

Weston and Rivett Primary School Sites

Representatives of Parks, Conservation and Lands section of TAMS gave an initial presentation on plans for community gardens at the former Weston and Rivett school sites, at a WCCC meeting on 25 May 2009.

On 26 August 2009 there was a further presentation by the Consultants and TAMS representatives of the proposals for the community gardens and parks at these two sites. These presentations followed site visits and meetings with interested residents. Construction of the community gardens at each site is expected to begin about November 2009 and will be done in conjunction with other developments in Kambah and this may affect the timing.

Representatives of Parks, Conservation and Lands section of TAMS gave a presentation on plans for community gardens at the former Weston and Rivett school sites, at a WCCC meeting on 25 May 2009. When plans have been finalised, there will be a further presenstation to WCCC members (perhaps at the July public meeting). Construction of the community gardens is expected to begin about November 2009
