Weston CIT Site Park and Arboretum Land Use

At the monthly meeting (4 Nov 09) discussion occurred about the formal classification of the area located at the current CIT Heysen Street Weston site that contains the area being discussed as a community park/arboretum. Purdon Associates and Mr Ross McKay advised the meeting that the site was classified as urban open space under the current Territory Plan. The plan (as at 4 Sep 09) details the site as urban open space as detailed in the map (click to enlarge) – full details are available on the ACT Legislation Register.

Draft Stromolo Master Plan

Mr Neale Guthrie (Department of Territory & Municipal Services ) provided the 30 Sep monthly meeting with a detailed presentation on the current draft master plan for future development of the Stromlo Forest Park. While submissions have closed on the current plan input from community members and interest groups is still being made.

We were unable to cater for the large number of attendees at the Weston Creek Community Council meeting on Wednesday 24 June and a further meeting to cater for those that missed out and for those who had further questions was held on 8 July. Council continues to monitor planning for both of these developments.

ACTPLA has received planning proposals for the first stages of the Molonglo Arterial Road [The John Gorton Arterial] and the North Weston Ponds. Click here for details »...

Weston Primary School Site

Representatives of Parks, Conservation and Lands section of TAMS gave a presentation on plans for community gardens at the former Weston and Rivett school sites, at a WCCC meeting on 25 May 2009. When plans have been finalised, there will be a further presenstation to WCCC members (perhaps at the July public meeting). Construction of the community gardens is expected to begin about November 2009

Web Site Update

1 Oct 09 - The Council has been working to update and improve the web site and has incorporated a number of new features - providing feedback on articles, sharing articles with friends, on-line sign-up to our email list, improved categorisation of articles and a comprehensive search facility to locate all content on the site.

If you are involved in a local community group you can also ask us to include your activity/event in our on-line calendar of events.   Feedback and suggestions are also welcome.

Weston & Molonglo Campaign - 2008

During 2008 the Council conducted a campaign around the proposed government developments in Molonglo and Weston. A spitited campaign was mounted by the Council following the government's response to earlier submissions made by the Council on the proposed developments. Read here for details ».. .
