The Community “Walk in the Park” held on Sunday 21 March 2010 in the CIT Gardens Park, was a great success. Over 50 people attended and spent over an hour becoming acquainted [and in some cases re-acquainted] with the mature trees and open spaces in the new Community Park.
The WCCC has lodged comments with ACTPLA on the development application for the North Weston. The Council comments are
A walk through of the Weston Creek Community Park is being organised for mid-day Sunday 21 March to enable Weston Creek residents to view and appreciate the park. Residents may recall the recent government agreement to the Council’s representations to most of the gardens at the former Weston CIT site into a Community Park.

Parents of students at Orana School in Weston are concerned about the safety of their children due to an expected increase in traffic in Unwin Place.
The school has made representation to the ACT Government in the past about traffic movement at the intersection of Streeton Drive and Dixon Drive.
An Islamic School of Canberra will be built on the former CIT School of Horticulture in Weston after the sale of Government land, ACT Chief Minister Jon Stanhope said today.
The Land Development Agency (LDA) has engaged Cardno Young to undertake the planning, design and documentation of the Wright and Coombs residential estates in Molonglo Valley.
The LDA is also preparing a Riparian Management Strategy to conserve and rehabilitate aquatic and riparian ecosystems adjacent to the suburbs of Coombs and North Weston, while enhancing recreational opportunities and improving amenity for residents and visitors.

Construction is about to start on a major arterial road, pond and a pedestrian bridge in the new Molonglo Valley development.
The Stage One works will see the first 2.3 kilometres of John Gorton Drive constructed from the intersection of Cotter Road and Streeton Drive to an interim connection with Coppins Crossing Road. This work includes the construction of the new Weston Creek Bridge and will take 18 months to complete.

North Weston UpdateThe North Weston developer has recently outlined his views on the future development of North Weston in the Canberra Times. The Chief Planning Officer has indicated that the Development Application is yet to be lodged with ACTPLA and so no consideration of the developpment can be made until this occurs. The Community will have an opportunity to comment on the Development Proposal when the Application is lodged.
