Public Information Sessions – Wright and Coombs, Molonglo

The Land Development Agency (LDA) has engaged Cardno Young to undertake the planning, design and documentation of the Wright and Coombs residential estates in Molonglo.

The LDA invites the public to review and provide feedback on the draft Estate Development Plans (EDP) for Wright and Coombs. Resident comments can also be made, or copied to WCCC through this article's comment form.

Weston CIT Site Park and Arboretum Land Use

At the monthly meeting (4 Nov 09) discussion occurred about the formal classification of the area located at the current CIT Heysen Street Weston site that contains the area being discussed as a community park/arboretum. Purdon Associates and Mr Ross McKay advised the meeting that the site was classified as urban open space under the current Territory Plan. The plan (as at 4 Sep 09) details the site as urban open space as detailed in the map (click to enlarge) – full details are available on the ACT Legislation Register.

ACTPLA has recently asked for public comment on the Coombs and Wright Concept Plan for Molonglo which closes on 23 November 2009.

Draft Stromolo Master Plan

Mr Neale Guthrie (Department of Territory & Municipal Services ) provided the 30 Sep monthly meeting with a detailed presentation on the current draft master plan for future development of the Stromlo Forest Park. While submissions have closed on the current plan input from community members and interest groups is still being made.

North Weston and Molonglo Development Update

We were unable to cater for the large number of attendees at the Weston Creek Community Council meeting on Wednesday 24 June and a further meeting to cater for those that missed out and for those who had further questions was held on 8 July. Council continues to monitor planning for both of these developments.

Information on Coombs, Wright and Land Releases

Thanks to Julie Krassay for pointing out the link to the ACT residential land release program, and the Canberra Times article on the meeting between the WCCC and Andrew Barr. Thanks to Deb Nichols for pointing out ACTPLA's plans for the new suburbs of Coombs and Wright. However, improvements were on display at the Meet the Ministers function on 12th of May.

During 2008 the Council conducted a campaign around the proposed government developments in Molonglo and Weston. A spitited campaign was mounted by the Council following the government's response to earlier submissions made by the Council on the proposed developments. Read here for details ».. .
