Government Releases 50+ Network (Enhancing the Quality of Life of People Aged 50+) Survey Results

Article posted on Friday 03 February 2012 | Leave a comment »

In August 2010 the ACT Government commissioned a pilot project in Weston Creek to identify the needs of people aged 50+ in the local community and deliver a pilot information and advisory service and a range of social events.

In particular, the project focussed on consulting with people in this age group to determine what services they may require to live comfortably in their own homes and the social and recreational activities they desire to enhance their quality of life.

Council is dissappointed that 18 months after the survey was commissioned, no decision has been made by Government on a Pilot Project. The Report says that "the pilot aims to model for the ACT an adaptable prototype based on the Virtual Village network concept. The long term goal is the development and implementation of a Seniors Network Service business serving all 50+ ACT residents, which would operate as a self funded, sustainable community program."

Council would like to know when Government will make an announcement on this Report. The Government released the report in November 2011 which is available here » ...

Fetherston Gardens for 2011 - Annual Garden Ramblings

Article posted on Tuesday 06 December 2011 | Leave a comment »

The Fetherston Gardens restoration is underway. A year has passed since we started on this journey, and the Gardens and arboretum are looking grateful for the intervention of Volunteers. Before us were acres of overrun ivy, up every tree trunk, smothering any idea of a garden with plants. We started at the front gate, too frightened to leap much further along the paths, what paths! We had to find those too.

Weston Creek Community Council - November 2011 Chronicle

Article posted on Wednesday 23 November 2011 | Leave a comment »

Council welcomes the decision by Government to prepare a master plan for the Weston Group Centre.  This is a great initiative which is really long overdue.

And NOW is the time for Weston Creek residents to comment on this proposed master plan.  This is our opportunity to let the ACT Government know what works and what doesn’t, what isn’t provided and what is needed.  Think about parking, buses, the lack of services, the impact of the Molonglo developments but don’t forget what you like about Cooleman Court and the Weston Group Centre.  The greater the input the greater likelihood that Government will listen.  Don’t waste this opportunity to make your comments known.  Have your say at environment.act.gov.au/weston or contact the community engagement team on 62071923.
